Just to you.. bro’s
29 March 2005

Bro’s the 3 msg you send to me this afternoon, my reply will be:
I did not avoided you, please la.. if I pick up the calls don’t mean I avoiding you.. I am really busy over my admin stuff in school and have to complete it asap.. Even I had to bring home to setter some of them.. I have a lot of things to setter and some are trying to delay me.. Beside that.. Calls after 2300hur I suppose not to answer.. If you have forgotten my culture, I always sleep in my bed at 2300hur sharp..
I think there no point for me to tell you the answer any more.. Since you have already lost faith and trust in me.. I really got nothing to continue with you.. I will try to make a appointment with you asap once I am really free..
But my wish was still you and him will be still friends.. Miracle will always happen if both of you do something about it.. Just like the first flew machine - aeroplan done by Wilbur and Orville Wright, made history when they successfully flew their simple machine called Kitty Hawk in Dayton, Ohio, on 17 December 1903.. If you will just step one leg forward and tell him nicely maybe the miracle will just happen..

Is ‘Blood ticker then Water’ or ‘Water ticker then Blood’?
23 March 2005

I came to a point where I have to make decisions.
1. My brother Call me to leaves my friend (or teach his a lesson, what he did wrong). Coming to this point where I could able to find someone really suitable, even thought we have a lot of differences.. But I just cant keep fall in love.. But still I have to make a decision.. Is either I lost a brother or my friend.. If I could get back both of them, that will be so wonderful.. Will miracle happen to me once again? (Just like almost lost a brother)..
2. The SC Teacher I/C whom had tell me off yesterday asked me whether I am ready for a high position in SC.. I dont know what will be the position beside that she going to tell me detail tomorrow.. On the other hand, I so anxious to be stress out..
In this case I have the right whether I going to except it anot..
3. This Saturday I have my 100m Race hit try.. In past few years i have no change to run this race.. and I 2 weeks back my teacher supported me to go for a try.. On the other hand i have my Pula Ubin trip for my AQ training..
i really missing in my dream.. so many thing to clear..
No stead 2 share with.. And i also come to a point where i dont few like making any more friends.. i just want to be myself and try to go through the doleful time i have now.. Just like i found 1.. but i will lost someone in either ways..

Standing and Innocent
22 March 2005

Beginning of school term our principal will like to announce what was happen over the week.. And out of that I was also being call standing. Firstly was then Student Leader’s who attend the Camp and Boy Brigade’s was being announce the Gold jubilee award (Honour roll) in addition the trophy was being presented to Mrs Betty Chow during the Enrolment and Dedication Services last Sunday.
Our previous Add Math teacher had resigned as she has a high inspiration for a master degree. So we do expect a new teacher to teach us.. But if you ask me to choose which teacher, I will prefer the pervious 1.. As for the new teacher now.. He don’t know how to teach us student.. Possible reason was his talking language and also no experience in teacher..
How I know he got no experience?? Because I posted this question to him “Are you a NEW teacher”, and he replied “Yes” and “izzit now teacher can’t teach”. (he was them angry at this point of time.. even show me faces).. And in just a small class for us only 10 students only 1 student understand what the hell he trying to tell us..
Beside that, today when I ask one of my friend who also teach by his now, he said that everyone could not understand.. And they did asked their pervious teacher to come and their teacher told them, “Just give him a chance, let him learn”, so my friends nothing to said.
If I was there, I will sure tell the teacher’s “then who will give us chance to pass, with such a horrible teacher”.. And before I really voice up to my principle or HOD.. I will let his try the last lessons tomorrow.. Hope that he have already prepare what he going to teach us.. If not I better step out then sorry.. I think the best way to help us is to resign.. Hope he do consider..
While for today when I reach the quadrangle this morning I was being tell off by two teachers, 1 was the Student Council Teacher’s in/charge (ask me why I never go do duty and standing there to talk), another was one of the discipline committee (ask me why I talking down there.. when I suppose to be seated and do silent reading.) Anyway just asked me some questions la.. I dont really give a dame.. And for the SC duty I dont seem anyone doing it for sec 4.. And I was just like the only standing there like “gong gong”
This only for one of the classmate:You are really them daring; you thought I got no experience ah.. I can say I more pro then you lo. But when u tell me “J” do it for you I was really shock.. Even thought I suspect he are la.. but there still no record for any my friends..

This break of 1 week was a very short one and time flies. On the 12 to 14 March I have my SL camp. Then on 15 March I have a small expedition from Khatib to Woodland. And after the expedition walk at around 1500hr reach home deside that this the only day that I found I could touch my homework.
Next, on 16 March I have a kayaking, cycling and expedition walk around the East Coast area. After the whole training, at 2330hr I meet one friend and was able to watch the movie Hitch at 0020hr. After the movie we was walking around the Orchard area.. And we do board the first train at Somerset back home that toward Marina Bay then turn back to CCK and Yew Tee respectively.
On the 18 March, I went to Jun Yi birthday celebration at CCK K-box. Fellow by AQ briefing held at BBHQ. After that, I meet the same friend which watch the night movie again, this time we watch The son of the Mask at 0140hr. But this time we took the third train instead of the first train in Dhoby Ghaut.
The next day 19 March, I took a quick bath and went for my rock climbing at Singapore Polytechnic and it end at around 1300hr and all of us wanted to go COGS to see how they rehearsal for today Enrolment and Dedication Service.

Time Flies 3 Days 2 Nights Is Over..
14 March 2005

Everyone who went to the SL camp really can’t believe today we are going home.. this story started in 12 March 2005, 2 days back when all of us was assemble in our school quadrangle (parade square) at 730 a.m. sharp.
I reach school at about 700 a.m. and I saw the Boy’s Brigade was doing their 5BX.. I can see that they were not enjoying themselves, how was they been treaded, I don’t know..
After the roll-call, soon the buses arrive and by 8.00 a.m. we set off from our school to Sentosa Ferry Terminal.
We reached Ferry Terminal at around 9.00 a.m. beside that on our way to the Ferry Terminal many students was looking at the Burger King which are suppose to be open up by 9.00 a.m.. After our second round of roll-call, the senior keep scream “Burger King are open”…
So, the senior SL asks the Teachers whether we are allowed to buy the food. At the same time we are all ahead of time. Of course the teachers allow us to buy. After a toilet break, I join in the crowd to buy BK Big Fish. Some eat at the seats provided others just eat at the Ferry Terminal.
By 10.00 a.m. we set off from Sentosa and reaches St John Island at 11.00 a.m.
Next, we have our lunch. It seems we just have 90 minutes to digest all the stuff we had brought in Sentosa. Even though it just 90 minutes, everyone manage to grab a bit for they lunch.
After lunch we have area cleaning and Barrack inspection, for both gals and guys.
Then at 2.00 p.m. we have our Leadership Training Module, which included 4 Modules. After 4 hours of lessons, we finally have our dinner. In between the lessons we do have a team building games. First was to whole on the role that tie it to a circle and each of us has to hand on to the rope in the outer circle. Everyone was to pull the rope and balance yourself with the opposites partner. Beside that you have to go down to the ground safely without any hand being band and butt touch the ground. In addition, we also told to turn a round with the position.
Second Dog ‘N’ Bone this game was divided in tow groups equally. And each of them was given a number in order, in the centre of the two groups there was place a bottle. And when the judge call out the number’s, the player’s was to come out and catch the bottle, beside that if the players take the bottle and the opposites player are to catch the to gain back their points.
Third (I can’t remember the name). This game was to do with your speed.
Firstly each of they are to seat around two circles. So is either some one in front of you or behind you. One of the crowd, one will be the catcher while another will be the runner. The catcher was to catch the runner, at the same time the runner was to seat behind some one and the front person will be come the runner. Once the catcher catch the runner the runner will be the catcher and the catcher will be the runner.. They change they position. This team building games, most of them are from BB, which I had played before.
After all sweaty sweat that we produce, it come to a time for personal administration and wash up. By 10.30 p.m. we are to gather back and have our supper. Next, all lights off

Day 2: 13 March 2005
By 5.55 a.m. we are to assemble in the basketball court for our warn up and sunrise. For the sunrise we dun not really able to see the entire sun rise to the point that we can see the half sun. We only see until the light that lightens the places. After which at 7.30-8.00 we have our breakfast. Then from 8.00-9.30 a.m., 9.30-11.00 a.m. and 11.00-12.30 p.m. we are told to plan the proposal for sec 2 NYAA camp in June, Project Navigation/ Night Expedition and Charity concert held in school in March respectively.
Then at 12.30-13.30 and 13.30-14.00 p.m. we have our lunch and area cleaning respectively.
Coming out next is Stations games. A told of 6 stations. Station 1 was to go over the hula-hoops to go through each others. Station 2 was to climb the sloppy slop up in a 45 degree angle beside that you have to use any 4 connections and climb as a group. Station 3 was to turn the poncho around with every group members standing on the poncho. Station 4 was blind man walking in the spider web. The leader was to lead the blind folder to walk over the spider web. Station 5 was a 800 voltage rope was tie on coconut trees. You have to try transfer your mans to the others without touching. Station 6 was to untangle with your mans to become a perfect circle.
Every game took up about 20 minutes and plus 5 minutes break after each game. And out of this 6 games 4 of them are wet game. Same as for here, most of this games was also contribute by BB.
After all the water booms and sweat, it time for a clear up. Next we have our Dinner fellow by night expedition. After a 150 minutes night expedition, we finally come to the last was up for the day and fellow by supper and free time, last of all lights off.

Day 3: 14 March 2005
There no activities in the third day. Basically is just Cleaning and round up every thing.

OverallFor this camp, I really have the golden opportunity to communicate with others sec 3 level, mainly the Express courses peoples. It actually allows us to bound together, knowing each other characteristic and quality each of us having.
At the same time, in the St John Island, there also a group of student from FIRST TOA PAYOH SECONDARY SCHOOL. During they cheer, they there to do anything like shacking they butt and so on… However, when come to proper things like their school reputations, they were really humiliating themselves. Examples like couple holding hands in the public, a Boy tie his hair with a red band. Even thought this was just the majority, but they are just prostrate the school image.
The sad things are: they have a camp T-shirt, we don’t. Our cost for this camp per head is just about $25+, but they maybe up to $35+. We all are trying our very best to lowest the cost so that everyone could afford it. Our school are trying they best to lowest the cost so that we can have 3 camps instant of 1.

Issues against gays
14 March 2005

Over last week there a lot of issues that causes the AIDS increase and the reason given by the Senior Minister State for Health Balaji Sadasivan said: ‘the population increase in percentage of AIDS were due to the increase of gays in Singapore. Nine out of 10 of the new AIDS sufferers are men, a third of them gay and 28% of the 311 AIDS last year are gays.’ In addition he also humiliate the gays feelinhg, he said that: “We don’t need such parties on our doorstep. Call me selfish, but they can happen else where.”
This issue is a very good issue to discuses.

s'pore health minister's comments on HIV surge and gay parties draw criticism
s'pore health minister's comments on HIV surge and gay parties draw criticism

A senior health official in Singapore who linked HIV surge among MSM to popular annual gay dance parties “which allowed gays from high prevalence societies to fraternise with local gay men" has drawn fire from gay groups.

Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Health, Dr Balaji Sadasivan, told lawmakers on Wednesday that the Nation parties, which has been held annually since 2001, could be linked to the HIV upsurge among gay men in the country. He warned of an AIDS epidemic as the total number of new cases rose 28 per cent in 2004 reaching a high of 311 from 242 the year before. He reported that 90 per cent of new patients being men and a third of them being homosexual.

Despite acknowledging that the health ministry does not know the “reasons for the sharp increase of HIV in the gay community,” Dr Balaji nevertheless quoted the hypothesis of an unnamed “epidemiologist who suggested that this may be linked to the annual predominantly gay party in Sentosa – the Nation Party - which allowed gays from high prevalence societies to fraternise with local gay men, seeding the infection in the local community.”

Organised by Fridae, the Nation parties – which are held annually on the eve of National Day – drew about 8,000 people from the region in 2004. An Action for Aids booth at Nation.04 was ordered to be shut down by the authorities as they objected to anti-Aids campaigners handing out condoms and safer sex info as it was perceived to be promoting gay sex.

In response, Roger Winder, programme director of AfA said, “I suppose this is progress compared to quoting a women’s magazine as a source of epidemiological data,” referring to the minister’s mention of an article in a women’s lifestyle magazine which detailed the sexual exploits of a gay man who had sex with a hundred men, some of whom were married.

At the same event, he also blamed the "promiscuous and unsafe lifestyle" of some gays for fueling the country's HIV epidemic and accused a lifestyle article published on Fridae.com for promoting promiscuity.

Winder told Fridae: “One would expect comments on a particular source or trend of transmission to be based on careful analysis of epidemiological data. The speech suggests that the comment quoted was based on an individual epidemiologist’s opinion or impression rather than on analysed data.”

He also expressed concerns that the minister’s comments published on the front page of The Straits Times on Thursday might cause the (heterosexual) public to be more complacent as they make an even stronger association between HIV/AIDS and gay/bisexual men, also reinforcing prejudices and homophobia. The non-governmental group also fears that the remarks which places the blame on foreigners might mislead MSM in Singapore into thinking that locals are safe.

Dr Balaji's comments have expectedly drawn criticism from Fridae’s chief executive Dr Stuart Koe who highlighted that official health agencies have never addressed MSMs (men having sex with men) in any of their public health campaigns. He added: "Because gay sex is illegal, many of the public health agencies in Singapore aren't even available to work with MSM groups.”

Eileena Lee, president of activist group People Like Us, is concerned that the minister’s comments might only serve to unfairly link HIV with homosexuality when gays still form the minority of infected people, and further marginalise an already marginalised and stigmatised minority group which receives virtually zero positive visibility.

“It is hoped that such unsubstantiated and unsubstantiable comments be removed from public discourse as it only serves to unfairly target one community without looking at the bigger picture, which is education on safe sex, early and regular testing, and cheap and easy access to anti-retrovirals,” she told Fridae.

Commenting on Dr Balaji's latest remarks, a Bangkok-based HIV researcher questioned if fear of stigmatisation had caused artificially low reports in the past and if the country is detecting more cases because more people are coming forward to get tested.

He said, "An increased number of cases, by itself, means little in a population like MSM. We need to look at rates of HIV infection among MSM tested. If the rates are similar to past year's rates then we're diagnosing more infections, but probably not experiencing a dramatic rise in recent infections. We need more information. Those programs that are beginning to provide information should be aided and praised."

Another HIV epidemiologist Fridae spoke to said that it is impossible to say when the infections have occurred as the increased number of HIV infections diagnosed in Singapore are prevalent infections.

Speaking on condition on anonymity, the American scientist added that the reported increase could very likely be the result of an increased awareness regarding HIV infection in the (MSM) community. He sees more people at risk coming forward for HIV testing and being diagnosed as a positive development as these people can be educated and treated if necessary.

He warned that the government’s reaction to use data generated from their anonymous test site – which has been organised and operated mainly by MSMs – to stigmatise and discriminate MSM is very “dangerous and counterproductive” and would “dampen the motivation in the MSM community to gather and release these kind of data and will make them feel that their HIV prevention efforts are not appreciated.”

“This may lead to a situation where the HIV epidemic in MSM will no longer be addressed and no longer be visible, but will continue to spread unabated, but out of sight. This is the worst thing that could happen, and I urge the government of Singapore to take its responsibility and act responsibly. After all it is the responsibility of the government to protect the health of its citizens, and not to damage it."

s'pore gay group offers other possible reasons for HIV surge among MSM

s'pore gay group offers other possible reasons for HIV surge among MSM

PLU3 believes more possible reasons in increase of HIV prevalence within MSM population.

People Like Us 3 (PLU3) believes that there are other possible reasons for the increase in HIV infection rates among the Singapore Men Who Have Sex With Men (MSM) population, besides Dr Balaji Sadasivan's explanation.

In his Budget Speech on 9 March 2005, Dr Balaji Sadasivan, Senior Minister Of State For Health stated:

1. 90 per cent of newly diagnosed patients are males, with 1/3 of them identified as MSM.

2. that according to an epidemiologist, the predominantly gay party in Sentosa, "Nation", allowed gay men from high prevalence societies to fraternise with local gay men, thereby resulting in an increase in infection rates within the local MSM population. However, he clarified that this is a hypothesis, which warrants more research.

In light of the increase in infection of HIV amongst the MSM population, the Ministry of Health should increase and sharpen its efforts on prevention. This includes sponsoring proper scientific and clinical studies on the transmission pathways of these infections; and working closely with NGOs such as Action for AIDS and other MSM stakeholders such as gay groups to stem this rise.

Further, discussions about MSM HIV infection, particularly Governmental statements and the media, should take a more informed approach. Firstly it is critical to make the important epidemiological distinction between the gay community and the public health category of MSM (Men who have Sex with Men) in public health discussions. Not all MSM identify themselves as gay.

To target HIV prevention amongst MSM by reference only to the gay community would lead to other segments of MSM such as married MSM and bisexuals being neglected with adverse public health consequences.

Secondly the single hypothesis given by Dr Balaji Sadasivan as being the cause for the significant rise in MSM HIV infections, will only further entrench homophobic attitudes, remarks and behaviour from the general public towards gay Singaporeans.

It is likely to lead to and strengthen the public misperception that the typical gay individual is promiscuous and practices dangerous and irresponsible sexual behaviour. This is an unfair stereotype of the Singaporean gay community.

Whether or not the epidemiologist is right in his hypothesis, an objective appraisal of the situation should have acknowledged other possible reasons for the increase in MSM HIV infections. PLU3 is disappointed that other plausible causes for the increase in MSM HIV rates were not highlighted in the Minister's speech. These include:

1. increase in number of people taking HIV tests - due to wider media publicity and Action for AIDS' (AfA) successful outreach efforts in reaching out to MSM through its targeted projects.

2. increase in number of MSM which include gay and bisexual men going overseas and being infected due to lowering their guard in practicing safer sex.

3. reduced vigilance from urban MSM globally towards HIV prevention possibly due to recent advances in medical science, which have transformed HIV from a disease resulting in certain death to potentially being a long term chronic though serious illness. The fact that the incidence of higher 2004 MSM infection rates in Singapore may be part of the global trend of increased infection amongst urban MSM could be a strong indication of this possibility even in Singapore.

While AfA has done a remarkable job by depending on the goodwill of its donors and volunteers, the Government needs to recognise that the continued criminalisation of homosexual acts is a major barrier against allocating more public funds and resources towards MSM HIV prevention. The outdated law which has been repealed in Hong Kong and which does not even exist in Indonesia, Thailand and the rest of East Asia also prevents NGOs including gay groups from actively pursuing open outreach programs targeted at MSM.

In view of the publicity, we hope the gay community will take a more proactive approach in coming out and demystifying the negative stereotype of gay men. PLU3 also strongly encourages MSM to start and continue to practice and encourage safer sex amongst their peers and other MSM.

While the Ministry of Health plans to legalise compulsory tracking, encourage abstinence before marriage and monogamous coupling, it is essential to recognise that safer sex education which include counseling and encouragement to reduce the numbers of sexual partners and the use of prophylactics also form the non- negotiable fundamentals of a pragmatic approach towards HIV prevention.

There is a need for more education in HIV prevention, treatment and stigma reduction against HIV positive individuals. The HIV issue is a public health issue and should not be made into a moral debate which detracts from an open, scientific and rational approach to prevention. The gay community and other MSM cannot be left out or be discriminated against in this effort.

Currently the criminalisation of homosexual acts prevents a widespread MSM participation in the effort to stem HIV. Without this participation, HIV prevention strategies amongst MSM including the gay community run the risk of being ineffective or even damaging.

About PLU3PLU3
is a working group, inspired by PLU (People Like Us) in its attempt to engage the Singapore government in constructive dialogue and seek registration as a society. It is a sexual minority rights group representing the interests of GLBT community in Singapore. We believe that everyone in Singapore should have a full and equal place in our society regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. To this end, PLU3will work for more informed understanding, the removal of barriers and a fuller integration of sexual minorities with the larger community. PLU failed twice in seeking registration as a society. We hope that PLU3 will be successful in this endeavour and that there will be no need for a PLU4 or 5 in a Singapore that promises to be more open and inclusive

Life getting monotonous, feeling so lonely and miserable + extremely busy..
07 March 2005

While I really have to thank the school for the stupid programs that was given to us like the “Power Point Course” and also the “Confident Speakers’ Course” which I and majority of us felt that it useless.. For the Power Point Course, it had been the second days, and I don’t seem I had gain any knowledge.. Simply what she taught us was what I had learn in Primary life likewise the Confident Speakers’ Course, it going to round up for this course just 1 more lesson, yet I still learn NOTHING!! The school are just wasting own Edusave money.. Just spent it for nothing.. And we don’t have a choice to choose it or not.. I would prefer to go for my AQ training then such courses.. It just wasting our money and time for that..
I have not be training vaguely for the coming AQ in April.. Since last Thursday the Power Point course started and fellow by the Confident Speakers’ course held on Friday.. And for this week today we had Power Point course again.. And for tomorrow we have the Last lesson of the Power Point course likewise the Chinese Speakers’ course on coming Friday.. However I was just be attaining less then half of the lesson of the Power Point Course.. As tomorrow I will have my First SC (Student Council) meeting.. Hahaz.. That maybe sound great on the other hand that mean I have one more duty to perform.. I got nothing to worry about that.. Except my exam.. I got back some of the results today and I can say that I NOT happy about it as most of the result was like “hang man” I may just drop at any point of time!! What can I do..?? So miserable..
