Marley And Me
It was just a tiring day for us.
Yesterday stay to do the PPT till 2am this morning. Luckily I manage to have 6 hours of sleep before meeting them to combine the PPT and do the last check.

A total of 150 slides for the PPT. Most of it was pictures and we elaborate through talking.

The whole meeting lasted for 1 hour 30 minutes and after which we have our lunch at E1 canteen.

So after the tiring presentation, we head down to Woodland and watch “Marley And Me”.

This movie was about a new wed couple, who adopt Marley; a Labrador dog which brings John and Jenny to parental responsibility. AT first, growing Marley was a disaster for them. Not even the Pet school area able to teach Merley about master and owner. It just names to be “The world worst dog”.
When their own kids grown up, the dog will also get old too. Putting on the heavy heart, John has to put the dog to sleep due to his age and seriously ill.
Haha. The film have too much intimacy kissing sense, make me feel.. hmmm..
But overall, it touch my feeling and give a proportion of ups and downs couple do face.

The next half hour, I was driving at the car park having some driving. Just turn and turn.. LOL
But I think I cannot make it for the clutch thingy la.. Should I press or ermm =X

Feel like taking Automatic, anyway I don’t need to drift and I doubt any land in Singapore can do drifting. God answer me. =X

Just stress myself for the FTT first ba…

Still need to do the PPT for tmr.. Going to have 40 odd slides just for the first 4days.. zzz

Service Learning to Cambodia 9 Feb to 21 Feb
Early morning, wake up at 0300 and meet my friends at 0330.
We reach the airport at around 0400 in the morning. As the driver come so early to my friend place hence, it end up being at the airport super early.
This was my first time leaving home along and going far away with a team of school friends. It is going to be exciting experience for sure.

Mickey theme was found in the airport, but I wonder why is Mickey when it not the year of rats or should I say … they recycle last year material?

Here are some of the photos I took using my mobile phone. Luckily I took some pictures using that if not I will have no picture to post as the DSLR have return to the facilitator.

For sure, the first day is more like relax for people like me as I am not the main project person who in-charge of the project. When we arrive at the Airport, the person IC of Caritas welcome us by having a firm hand shake. We have some small chat well they arrange for the transport.

After settle down in Caritas Cambodia campus, we have an exchange introducing session with the Cambodian.

We have our lunch brought back and dinner cook by our own team members.

When I know from my facilitator, the meal for 26 of us that we eat is actually equivalent to what almost their TWO MONTHS earning. How grateful we should be.

In the third day in Cambodia, I manage to sneak out to buy material for our composting project. The wood shop that we visit, surprise us. The wood we got is firstly much cheaper than what we brought on other day from another shop. Besides that, the friendly lady boss also treat us to their yards to have some fresh fruit (mango and guava) and snack well her worker is cutting the wood we want. Before we go off, she also direct us to a neighbouring shop to get the bamboo which also part of the material needed for another type of composting bin.

On the fourth day, which the members went to get the food for this afternoon meal, they also buy back some Coca Cola from the market.
Nevertheless we have to keep in schedule for out project. Nailing and putting up the things is highlighted in our agenda.

One of the most unforgettable moment for most of us who in the composting team is when we put the green compost to the bin we built. Just imagine the green are form markets where the vegetable is semi rotten and you have to use you own hand (with glove) to dig form the truck to put in to the bin. Besides that, you also have to dig out all unwanted waste material which is not or cannot be part of the compost. The malodorous smelly can even kill you without any moment. Not even the mask we put on can help much. At close to the evening time, mosquito also flying around to look for food and you have to stand there feeding them!
However, making thing fast without any complain is the only option to faster the work we can think of.

After all the unpleasant stuff, we have our dinner and the Cambodian teach us some of their dance after the meal.

Day5
It going to be surprise when you at the village (know as kampong in singapore) you get to listen to Rihanna; take a bow! This song was so familiar to me when I hear the music playing.
The village compose bin is make of bamboo and the compost material we found there was brown and green + cow dung. Before putting this ingredient, we hammer the bamboo to make it to a square cube. Furthermore the bamboo is very thick! We take years to hammer the nails but the villager just take second to do so.
After taking a group photos, we heard back to the Caritas.
Soon after, we went to the hospital (not me who get injury) just fellow and see how the hospital look like. Not as run down as you imagine. The first level is for consultation and some patient bed. It not a huge place but it condition is rather clean. The medicine is also arranged accordingly; not anyhow throw. Nothing was too serious for my friends. Just some pain killer for his leg@US$14.

Lexus sport car was spotted on our way back from market! Do you think they are poor or?!
Special celebrating for Evon’s birthday with the Cambodian Happy Birthday song!

Day6

Happy Valentine Day’s.
This special day was the time we get to rest and enjoy ourselves after 5days of working. It weekend, the Cartias there no school for them.

We went to Russia Market for our bargaining fun.

The impossible bargaining for clothing...
This can be broght in Singapore for S$10 and they selling at US$15. At first we bargains for the price of 2 for US$15. After moment of consideration, they give us the price.
But… doing a simple mathematic calculation, the price is still much more expensive then what we can get in Singapore.
The Caritas, Dom who fellow us manage to get the price of 2 for US$10. There no reason why the girls don’t buy now.

After all the shops, we went to a Muslim Restaurant for our lunch. We waited for 1hours30 min for the food to be served on our table. Waited till drop! There so much difficulty we have when we try to cancel our meal. As the waiting time make us FULL.

After the lunch we went to few places:
Toul Sleng Genocide Museum, showcase the prison of the pass in Cambodia during it S21. Entrance fee of US$2 each.
'boat for rent' @ $20 for all
Nearby, night market
We even by pass Singapore embassy. It like one of the most developed building in the state. It has a higher wall to cover the interior design and it has a singapore flag on the top of the building. The security camera was also much nicer unlike the "big big box" (like 10years back technology) we saw in other building. It just like back to Singapore feeling lol.

Today dinner was also something different, KFC!
Notices about the different between Singapore and Cambodia KFC

Stuff: the stuff in Cambodia is much friendlier. They are also efficient in clearing the place when the customs have done eating. Most of the stuff does know how to speak simple English.
However.. They just use the cloth to swipe off the food to the floor. The stall also floored with many different kind of buds flying around.

Food: they do serve rice as a dish.
But we order zinger with one piece chicken. The zinger also added cheese inside the burger.

Day 7
In the morning, we attend a Cambodian wedding near the place we stay.

During the noon, we visit the Choeung Ek Genocidal Centre.
One of the killing fields we visit for the former S.21 Prisoner. This field kills the one who have soft hand; as they find this people who can over take them as that mean they are smart or full of knowledge.
They only left farmer who can help provide food.

300+ killing field in was found in Cambodia
2million people was kill in 4 years of S.21.
1980 bodies were found and more are undiscovered.
17 levels =10 for skull + 7 for bone
Small hole kept 50 bodies
Big hole kept 450 bodies

We went to one of the two shopping malls in the state and we have Pizza @ Pizza Company for dinner. The manager was shock when we say 26 people.

This hole is created when we back to Caritas in Day 7. It not the first thing we make spoil or create trouble for them.
Day 10
Almost did not catch much sleep the night before. Just mingle around at the basketball court till morning.

Loading all our stuff to the bus and it was time to say good bye to Caritas Cambodia.
We starts our bus journey at 6am (7am Singapore time), a 7hours ride! to Siem Reap (northen of Cambodia).

Initially mention only 4hours but the slow and bumpy road end up it took 7hours.
We stay in Louts Lodge. The normal air-conditional room rate is US$35, but because we are here for Service Learning trip, we got discount for only US$22 per night for two.
Service include swimming pool, air conditional in room. Wifi is available but have to pay.
The Merlion was spotted in one of the hotel!
Visit War museum (or Landmine museum) and Ang Kor Wat for sun set.We have our own time own target (OTOT) dinner at Pub street area. Sunset
Sun Rise
Few of us, we have dinner at Red Piano. It has splendour outlook of the resturant just look like Singapore but at a more affordable price.
